Stepping out into the neighborhood and world through acts of addressing particular needs.  The Outreach Team at Holy Cross seeks the needs and issues of the local and global community and implements ways that the congregation can serve those needs.

2020 God’s Work Our Hands @ KBIC DIGs Community Garden🍅🍇🍎  Thank You to Sue wilson for the great photos!!!

Wonderful group of volunteers working together on the DIGs Community Garden and in the fruit orchard…

Learning about a new tasty tomatoes from one of the staff members who shared a wealth of information with us throughout the morning..

The tool that our Pastor is holding is one of the many tools we were able to pick from to keep. We went to help out and in turn recieved a gift for doing so. We were then informed that if you volunteer for 3-4 hours you will recieve one of these valuable tools.

About our Quilters . .

Always busy!!!    The ladies make pillow case dresses and  pairs of boys shorts for Little Dresses for Africa!   The items are sent each year to the Little Dresses for Africa Headquarters in Detroit.   Throughout the year they also make many quilts which are shipped to Lutheran World Relief.  Today and every day, Lutheran World Relief Quilts  give families around the world some of life’s essentials, as well as a reminder that they are not alone. From chronic poverty and conflict to drought and typhoon, the intensity of humanitarian needs continues to increase.  Anyone can work on a quilt – the ladies are willing to teach you some new skills!   It strengthens fellowship within our congregation, serves as a faith witness to our community and brings us closer to our global neighbors. The gifts the ladies give through these projects are an immeasurable blessing to families around the world.

We are fortunate to have this group of talented women!  Thank you for all you do and God Bless!

let’s eat iii!

The free inter-community meal that began in Chassell has spread to Hancock, Baraga, and Mass City.  Some of the sponsors for Baraga County have been St Vincent de Paul, United Lutheran, KBIC, Mission United, Jacoboson’s Funeral Home, Pettibone, Larry’s Market, Pat’s Foods, Certainteed, Besse Forest Products,  and Holy Cross. We have truly been blessed to be a part of this rewarding experience working alongside our brothers and sisters to  provide nutrition, inclusion, and socialization for people in our community.

Meals are the second Sunday of every month from 4:00-6:00 pm – always at St. Ann’s in Baraga.  Details are posted in the narthex if you’d like to help with food prep, cooking, serving, or clean up. You do not have to volunteer the entire day – there are several time slots with various duties– each about 1 ½ – 2 hours long.   No special training needed – please carefully consider volunteering some of your time to this ministry in our community – it is much appreciated by many people who otherwise do not have an opportunity to socialize; also offering a welcoming environment with a nice hot nutritious meal!  🙂

Annual Outreach Events . . .

mitten-heartWinter Clothing Giveaway in October

As we all know the winter season comes quick every year!  Through the past several years, in the fall,  we have collected hundreds of coats, hats, mittens, and other warm clothing items.  We pick a Saturday or Sunday in October and open our doors to anyone who is in need of cold weather items.  Thanks to everyone for your generous donations!  We are fortunate to have this outreach ministry at Holy Cross, offering nice gently used warm clothing items to help people keep warm!

“nOISY oFFERING”

During Lent and Advent every year we put out our noisy bucket!  Children bring  “loose change” donated by the congregation during the Offering,  to the altar and put it in the bucket.     The combined collection of change is brought to the  Synod Assembly in the spring;  the contributions will be given to World Hunger.

God’s Work Our Hands Day

“God’s work. Our Hands ”  is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America — one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. Nearly 10,000 congregations of this church gathered to serve communities in ways that shared the love of God with all of God’s people.
