Stepping out into the neighborhood and world through acts of addressing particular needs.  The Outreach Team at Holy Cross seeks the needs and issues of the local and global community and implements ways that the congregation can serve those needs.

 Sunday, September 8th following worship

“God’s work. Our Hands.” Sunday is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) — one church, freed in Christ to love and serve our neighbor. This is our way of life.

This year we decided the streets probably need another good cleaning. So please join us  as we put our hands together once again to be a presence in our community loving and serving our neighbors.

About our Quilters . . .

It has been a busy year!  The ladies have made 194 pillow case dresses and 32 pairs of boys shorts for Little Dresses for Africa!   The items were sent last week to the Little Dresses for Africa Headquarters in Detroit.

Since last October they have also made 33 quilts which will be sent to Lutheran World Relief.

We are fortunate to have this group of talented women!  Thank you for all you do and God Bless!

Community Soup Suppers – will resume in october

Thank You!

The Community Soup Suppers are done for the season and will resume in the fall.  Much gratitude and appreciation to everyone who prepared soup, breads, and desserts, also to those who served and cleaned up!  This outreach event continues to grow each year and is well liked by many people in our community.  It wouldn’t be possible without the efforts of many working together as a team!

Every 3rd Wednesday of the Month from 4:00 – 6:00 pm

Free of Charge Community Soup Suppers – join us for soup, bread, dessert, great fellowship, and conversation!    This outreach event has been growing each year and it wouldn’t be possible without the efforts of many working together as a team!   If you are interested in making soup or helping in any way please contact Holy Cross at 353-6541 – the kitchen is a fun place to be at Holy Cross and we look forward to having new friends  join us!

let’s eat iii!

The free inter-community meal that began in Chassell has spread to Hancock, Baraga, and Mass City.  Some of the sponsors for Baraga County have been St Vincent de Paul, United Lutheran, KBIC, Mission United, Jacoboson’s Funeral Home, Pettibone, Larry’s Market, Pat’s Foods, Certainteed, Besse Forest Products,  and Holy Cross. We have truly been blessed to be a part of this rewarding experience working alongside our brothers and sisters to  providie nutrition, inclusion, and socialization for people in our community.

Meals are every second Sunday of the month from 4:00-6:00 – always at St. Ann’s in Baraga.  Details are posted in the narthex if you’d like to help with food prep, cooking, serving, or clean up. You do not have to volunteer the entire day – there are several time slots with various duties– each about 1 ½ – 2 hours long.   No special training needed – please carefully consider volunteering some of your time to this ministry in our community – it is much appreciated by many people who otherwise do not have an opportunity to socialize; also offering a welcoming environment with a nice hot nutritious meal!  🙂

Thank You!

Holy Cross sponsored the Let’s Eat meal on Sunday, April 14th.  There was an excellent turn out of people who came to enjoy the dinner!  Approximately 75 people gathered to eat, with many lively conversations going on!     Thanks to our volunteers from Holy Cross; Joyce Z, Karla H, Gail H, Mark L,  Jake P, Nancy R, Dorothy M, Diane B,  Pastor Julie, and Tracey –Diana from St. Ann’s , – Sharon, Melody, and Hannah from Mission United also came to help!  Our regular cook, Jim Sullivan from Mission United,  held up pretty well as our only gentleman helper for many hours – he was shy to give out too many orders as he was kind of outnumbered until Jake and  Mark showed up!    We had a good time and once again shared with many neighbors in our community!

advent tree – ELCA Good Gifts 2018

ELCA Good Gifts provides more than 50 different gift-giving options that grow the church, fight hunger and transform lives. These gifts, starting at just $10, provide direct support for the churchwide ministries of the ELCA.

During Advent we  invited people to select an ornament from our Advent tree in the narthex and make a donation in that amount.  We also had our “Noisy Offering” during Advent and  collected loose change for World Hunger.  The change will be added to our Lenten noisy offerings and brought to the Synod Assembly this spring.
Thanks to everyone who donated this year buy purchasing your choice of Good Gifts!  We raised $407 this year to support the ELCA.   Things purchased this year were:
6 Clutches of Chicks
1 Set of Water jugs
1 Backpack stocked with food
1 Mosquito Net
1 Fees for School for a Girl
1 Sheep
1 Goat
2 Pigs
1 Support for a Young Adult in Global Mission for a Day

We also collected loose change during Advent and Lent.   Coins were ready for the children to bring to the “noisy” bucket during the offering. The combined collection of change will be brought to the 2019 Synod Assembly this spring;  the contributions will be given to World Hunger.
